Assault and Battery Against Emergency Medical Personnel
In Oklahoma, you can be charged with assault and battery if you attempt to harm and use unwanted physical force against another person. However, if you commit this crime against an emergency medical care provider, you may be charged with a felony and face harsher penalties.
Who Does This Law Cover?
Oklahoma Statute section 21-650.4 states that the term “emergency medical care provider” applies to the following:
- Doctors
- Interns
- Residents
- Nurses
- Aides to nurses
- Ambulance attendants/operators
- Paramedics
- Emergency medical technicians
- Members of hospital security forces
Penalties for This Crime
If convicted of this felony offense, you could face the following penalties:
- Up to two years in prison
- A fine of up to $1,000
