Alcohol Offenses in Oklahoma
While driving under the influence remains one of the most high-profile crimes involving alcohol, there are other alcohol offenses recognized by Oklahoma law. These include:
- Drunk and disorderly behavior
- Consuming intoxicants in public
- Furnishing alcohol to minors, intoxicated persons or mentally disabled people
The Law
Oklahoma statute § 37-8 discusses the consumption of intoxicating substances in public places. Intoxicating substances can include liquor, drugs, and even inhalants such as glue or paint. This statute makes it a misdemeanor offense to:
- Consume any intoxicant in a public place, unless it is authorized by the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Control Act
- Be drunk or intoxicated in any public place
- Disturb the peace while being drunk or intoxicated in any public place
The Punishment
If found guilty of this misdemeanor offense, you could face a fine of up to $100 as well as up to 30 days in jail.
