Oklahoma Schedule V Drugs & Illegal Possession
Many people assume that Oklahoma drug charges are only levied against people who use or possess typical “illegal” drugs, like cocaine or marijuana. This is not necessarily true, as there are many drugs that are legal with a prescription but can lead to serious consequences if someone possesses them without a prescription.
To draw distinctions, the government groups drugs into schedules, which are roughly sorted around the type of drug and the consequences for illegal possession.
Schedule V
Schedule V drugs include many prescription drugs that cannot be used or owned without the necessary medical justification from a doctor. This includes:
- Pregabalin, typically used to treat Fibromyalgia.
- Drugs that contain codeine
- Drugs that contain small amounts of opium
Illegal possession of a Schedule V drugs is a misdemeanor, and punishable with a fine of up to $1,000 or up to a year in jail. If a motor vehicle is involved, a conviction could also cause a loss of your Oklahoma driver’s license.
