Gun Crimes
Although Oklahoma allows licensed gun owners to carry firearms both openly and concealed, our state takes a hard stance against certain crimes involving firearms. Some gun crimes are considered misdemeanors and will result in monetary fines; others, however, are felonies that can result in life imprisonment.
Felony Gun Crimes
The most serious felony gun crimes in Oklahoma are:
- Shooting with intent to kill
- Assault with a deadly weapon
- Armed robbery
Conviction of these crimes can result in a maximum sentence of life in prison. Other felony gun crimes include:
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Brandishing a firearm
- Possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony
These crimes may be punished by up to 10 years in prison.
Other Gun Crimes
Oklahoma law details several other firearm offenses, such as:
- Unlawful carry
- Carrying while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Furnishing firearms to minors, incompetent persons or prohibited persons
- Manufacture or possession of unlawful ammunition
